Dance Specialist Certification Program

This is a comprehensive teacher’s training program that is designed for the Dance Specialist. A Dance Specialist is a dance teacher that specializes in working with Newcomers and Beginning Bronze Level Student’s. The complete Dance Specialist Certification Program is offered in 4 course segments: Smooth 101, Rhythm 102, Rhythm 103, and Rhythm 104. All 4 segments must be completed prior to scheduling your Dance Specialist Certification Exam.

The Dance Specialist Program is ideal for those who are considering a career as a dance teacher, or who would simply like to take their dancing to the next level. The in depth instruction of both the leader and follower’s role will help you get your student's ready for their next social or competitive dance event.

Each of the 4 course segments of the Dance Specialist Certification Program includes:
Dance History for each of the dances
Dance frame including practice frame and 4 (or 5) points of contact
5 basic dance elements to teach using the Interrelated Method of Teaching
Beginner-Bronze syllabus figures (Minimum of 3 figures per dance)
Learning how to teach rhythm, and how to get your student to count the timing of the music
Performing a solo demonstration of the leaders’ and followers’ dance figures
Dancing the lead and follower's part to music

The 4 course segments of the Dance Specialist Programs are taught in an interactive workshop format with a strong emphasis on your presentation skills. You will be expected to present the material that you learn in the class on a regular basis. You may be asked to demonstrate a figure or to present a brief history of a specific dance. You will also be expected to demonstrate (to music) the leader and follower’s part in all the dances. Therefore; every student is expected to dance with every other student as both leader and follower, regardless of gender. This is standard practice for professional dance instruction.
